West Coast Suspensions has just taken delivery of a brand new BYD Shark 6, and they’re already deep into research and development. The verdict? They love how it drives — but they see room to improve how it rides.
That’s exactly what they’re working on now.
35–50mm Suspension Lift in the Pipeline
WCS is developing a 35mm to 50mm lift kit, purpose-built to enhance load capability and ride comfort without compromising the Shark’s handling. The upgrade will include:
- Heavy-duty front and rear coil springs designed to handle accessories like bullbars, canopies, roof racks, and drawer systems
- Custom-tuned shock absorbers, engineered in-house to match Australian road conditions
- Backed by their 100+ years in the suspension business, a suspension solution that will withstand the tough Aussie landscape
This isn't just about height — it's about making the Shark 6 drive better when loaded, unladen, and everywhere in between.
Precision Testing, Not Guesswork
WCS is approaching this build from the ground up:
- Measuring factory suspension specs including spring rates, coil dimensions, and shock travel
- Dyno testing the OEM shocks to establish damping curves
- Using that data to tune new shocks that deliver better ride quality, load stability, and response
This ensures the final kit feels solid, composed, and suited to Australian conditions — not just taller.
A GVM upgrade for the Shark 6?
While WCS is focused on performance and comfort, GVM upgrade options may be available in the future. These would likely come through Direct Suspensions, pending further development and engineering assessments.
The Shark 6 Is Good — But It’s About to Get Better
With solid bones and impressive driveability, the BYD Shark 6 is a standout newcomer. But West Coast Suspensions is pushing it further — refining the ride, supporting heavier setups, and tailoring the suspension to what Aussie drivers actually need.
Stay tuned for updates — the Shark 6 is about to evolve!
